Dear Vanda: I share your outlook on the role of staff in a largely volunteer
organisation.

I would also add that volunteers need to act to reduce their own workload.
 One way to do so is to learn to quickly identify issues that merit our
intervention and gauge the level of intervention required to influence the
outcome.

I have always believed that the At-Large should choose its fights with more
acute deliberation. Let's do some cherry-picking and look for issues with
great impact.  Then have the courage to slug it out for them.
