Thank you very much for reverting back to me,
I was planning to reach out to you as I got couple of inquiries after sharing this email with APAC list.

I will start with your paragraph
“The RALO Discretionary Funding criteria are discussed and agreed to by the Regional Leadership in collaboration with At-Large staff.”

If this is the case, then the follow item on the selection criteria has to be removed because it contradicts with what have been agreed upon.

“ 1.    The applications for funding support for the local  ALS activity must come from a certified ALS or individual member that has demonstrated to be active by consistently participating in the regional monthly calls at least once every 3 months.”

I would urge the Regional Leaders to reconsider and follow what the selection criteria says. Because this will be one of the tools to Regional leadership be engaged with their ALSes. I heard during ALAC closing session at ICANN68 of their focus in the outreach on the ALSes due to the current COVID situation.

I was going to reach out to you on the following point from the announcement:
“In addition, the RALOs are strongly encouraged to focus funding on online activities that involve cross-regional engagement, instead of travel and in-person meetings that incur venue, catering and/or travel costs.”

Why not to be flexible and include onsite activities at the national/local level? This will covers in-person meetings with consideration of the new normal to be coordinated remotely with regional leadership/ GSE interventions.  If this is considered a support of an average of $600 would be enough in some countries to cover local outreach events.

I hope the regional leadership would be able to see this opportunity as an empowerment to all of Regional leaders and ALS community in reaching to their members about At-Large/ICANN. Even I suggest this would be an ongoing criteria for the coming years. It will make both the regional leadership and ALS representatives compete to offer the best outreach. Adding it will create friendly environment and fairness to all.

A side note with regards to the Request Form link on the announcement it is not open. I got the following when I clicked on
“The form FY20 RALO Discretionary Funding Request Form to Support an Outreach Activity is no longer accepting responses.“

Dear ALS representatives and unaffiliated individual members,

Thanks to Heidi for updating the RALO members for this outreach opportunity.

I’m copying here the selection Criteria to bring your attention to think of conducting an outreach event in your country. Since traveling next year is unpredictable it would be important to read the full announcement in the link below.
It would be great to maximize the number of expected recipients of the $4000 allocated to each RALO.

Selection Criteria

1.    The applications for funding support for the local  ALS activity must come from a certified ALS or individual member that has demonstrated to be active by consistently participating in the regional monthly calls at least once every 3 months.

2.    The ALS  or individual has previously organized or attended a special event with tangible outreach and engagement activities with specific expected results.

3.    The funds should be a portion of the full budget for the event.

4.    The Discretionary funds use shall be in alignment with the RALO Strategic Outreach Plans filed for the relevant Fiscal year.

5.    Staff will consider regional balance within each RALO during their review of the requests.
