[WHOIS-WG] [At-Large] Thick Whois

Holly

Yes, but when discussing the entire "registration data" thing (I'm still trying to find a neat term that I'm happy with) there needs to be a clear distinction made between the two, which is what I was trying to express

My alter ego, ie. that private individual who has a life etc., has rights under EU law to privacy etc., which the current whois policy for most gTLDs blatantly ignores.

And EU privacy laws are getting stricter if anything ..

So my personal alter ego is delighted, but my public persona (the registrar) is not too happy with the current "status quo"

I'd also worry about an over reliance on the term "accuracy", though that's probably a debate for another time ..

Regards

Michele

Hi Michele

I was referring to the Whois data because that is the data that must be publicly available - and raises legitimate privacy concerns. There are other issues that may be raised by the registration data that may be collected, but not displayed - and you're right, they need to be discussed separately.

The point I was making about the Whois data is that WEIRDS will help address the privacy issues by providing a mechanism by which the correct Whois data can be provided, and then access to that data restricted (for accepted privacy reasons) while still providing access for legitimate law enforcement requirements (as is generally accepted under privacy laws)

Holly.
