[EURO-Discuss] New level - High prices

Dear Oliver,

thanks for pointing this out. The debate has been going on in ICANN
community for quite a while already on whether ICANN should regulate
prices or introduce some kind of pricing controls. Pricing appears to
also have a consequence on domain misuse as it has been noticed that
domain names sold at very low prices are being used as throwaway domains
for spam etc. The discussion is ongoing with no consensus on what to do,
as some oppose any kind of pricing regulation in what is an open market,
whilst others are asking that ICANN establish rules for TLD pricing
increases. The fact that some domains are sold as premium domains for
several thousand $ whilst others are sold at $1, makes this difficult.
Plus the essential question remains: is it in ICANN's mandate to control
domain name pricing?

Kindest regards,

Olivier
