pre-ICANN69 Virtual ccTLD News Sessions
We seek presenters!

The ccNSO Meetings Programme Committee (MPC) will organise for the second
time a set of Virtual ccTLD News Sessions.

The MPC seeks presentation proposals from the ccTLD community, focusing
preferably on one of the following 2 topics:

   1. Policy updates by ccTLD registries during the COVID-19 pandemic
   2. Legislative initiatives that impact ccTLD registries (e.g. the Digital
   Services Act package

instance best practices, case studies, recent developments, ccTLD

marketing or legal point of view.

ccPDP4:(de)selection of IDN ccTLD strings

The ccNSO seeks volunteers for the Working Group which is tasked to develop
policy recommendations for the (de)selection of IDN ccTLD strings, as part
of the fourth ccNSO Policy Development Process (ccPDP4). In time, the
results of this ccPDP will replace the IDN ccTLD Fast Track Process, which
currently guides the selection process of IDN ccTLD strings.

Both candidates accepted their nomination, and due diligence verifications
will be starting shortly. An election will be held – starting in November
2020, after completion of the due diligence verifications – according to
the timeline previously agreed upon by the ccNSO Council.
The ccNSO Council and ccNSO members have agreed that the ccNSO members
shall propose and elect candidates for the two ICANN Board seats allocated
to the ccNSO, and that the winner of said election – i.e. the candidate
that receives the majority of the votes cast – shall in turn be nominated
to the ICANN Board seat by a majority vote of the ccNSO Council.

A Q&A session will be held at the October 2020 Virtual ccNSO Members
Meeting at ICANN69. This Q&A session will provide the ccNSO members and
broader ccTLD community an opportunity to interact with the candidates. In
preparation of this session, the candidates were invited to share their

Highlights of this ccNSO Council meeting include:

   - Adoption of the amended SOPC charter. The SOPC reviewed its charter
   and suggested some revisions, including changes to the membership rules.
   - Adoption of RWP-Proposed Assessment & Initial Implementation Plan for
   the ccNSO Review. The ccNSO Review Working Party (RWP) concluded its
   initial assessment of the recommendations made by the independent reviewer.
   - The ccNSO Council Nomination and Election Process for 2021. The ccNSO
   Council adopted a timeline and election process, including the appointment
   of an election process manager. Nominations will start in September 2020,
   followed by elections (if needed) in November 2020.
   - Adoption of the Final Report of the Cross-Community Working Group on
   New gTLD Auction Proceeds. The ccNSO Council is expected to adopt the Final
   Report of the CCWG-AP at its August 2020 meeting.
   - Review of the first ccNSO Council Virtual Workshop. The ccNSO Council
   looked back at the format of its first virtual workshop, review the
   results, and prepare next steps.

The Council will not meet in July. The next ccNSO Council meeting is
scheduled for Thursday, 20 August 2020 (12:00 UTC.)
