On 14 March 2014, the NTIA announced
<http://www.ntia.doc.gov/press-release/2014/ntia-announces-intent-transition-key-internet-domain-name-functions>
its intention to transition its stewardship role of IANA functions, and
called upon ICANN to launch and facilitate a process with the community
to derive a proposal to transition stewardship of the IANA functions to
the global multistakeholder community, meeting the criteria set out by
the NTIA.

Following community dialogue, the process
<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/process-next-steps-2014-06-06-en>
for developing a proposal for this transition was posted on 6 June 2014.
As a part of this process, an IANA Stewardship Transition Coordination
Group (ICG) will be responsible for preparing a transitional proposal
respective of the differing needs of the various affected parties of the
IANA functions.

transition process.
