  Why is keeping personal data in whois important?  Do you
want to be victim such as happened with WE?

  I for one am glad to see that the US congress and two of the
presidential candidates are taking this much more seriously.  It's
long past time for ICANN to do so with registrar registration
data as well as Whois.
