[NA-Discuss] VOTE ANNOUNCEMENT: NARALO Election May 2015 - Secretariat

Hello All, 

Evan is exactly right about how the electronic polls work.

To reiterate: Since there are two candidates for the ALAC Representative
(2015 AGM - 2017 AGM) position and two candidates for the NARALO Secretariat
position, electronic polls need to be conducted. The links provided in the
VOTE CREDENTIALS emails will direct you to the electronic polls, where you
cast your vote privately. You do not need to reply the VOTE ANNOUNCEMENT
email to voice your support for certain candidate(s) on the mailing list.
The VOTE ANNOUNCEMENT email mainly serves to notify NARALO that the polls
are now open. 

Electronic polls are different from the ŒConsensus Call¹ conducted earlier
for the NARALO Chair, NomCom Delegate, and ALAC Rep (2015 AGM ­ 2016 AGM)
positions. Since there is only one candidate for each aforementioned
position, you may voice your opinion about the candidate(s) publicly via
NA-discuss mailing list during the Consensus Call.

To find the VOTE CREDENTIALS emails, you may search their subject lines:

ALS representatives received these two emails:
* VOTE CREDENTIALS: NARALO Election May 2015 ­ ALAC Representative
* VOTE CREDENTIALS: NARALO Election May 2015 ­ Secretariat
Unaffiliated members received these two emails:

If you didn¹t receive the vote credentials emails, or have issues voting,
please contact me (ariel.liang at icann.org) directly.

Please note that the deadline for ALS representatives to cast their votes is
25 May 2015 23:59 UTC. The deadline for unaffiliated members is 24 May 2015
23:59 UTC. As we approach the deadlines, people who have not voted will
receive reminders.

Hi Leah.

Just a note, to you and all other ALS representatives: These votes are held
by secret ballot. You need not broadcast your intentions unless you
explicitly wish to do so.

In addition to the "VOTE ANNOUNCEMENT" emails which go to the entire mailing
list, every ALS representative should by now have personally received two
separate emails with the subject "VOTE CREDENTIALS" -- one for the
Secretariat and one for the ALAC representative.

(Individual non-ALS members should have received similar but slightly
different ballots.)

Each of these "credentials" emails contains a link that is private to you,
that enables you to vote using a web service called "BigPulse". Upon voting
you will receive a coded receipt that can be used in case of challenge or
irregularity. 

Results are tabulated automatically by BigPulse and relayed to ICANN staff
at the close of the election period.

ICANN staff could if they wanted extract information on who voted which way,
but that would only be required in case of a challenge and this has not yet
IIRC been required in the history of ALAC. What is more often done is that
ICANN staff typically query BigPulse halfway through a voting period, in
order to send reminders to those who have not yet voted.
