Dear LACRALO:

As you know we have been working on a new automated way for English emails
to be translated automatically into Spanish, and for Spanish emails to be
translated into English.

After substantial testing, we believe that we are ready to start using the
interface.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN?:

The single LAC-Discuss list will become two lists: LAC-Discuss-EN, the
English list, and LAC-Discuss-ES, the Spanish list.

ALL members of LACRALO will need to join ONE of the two lists, at some point
before 10 October 2008. On that day, the existing LAC-Discuss list will
become locked, no further postings will go through (any posts you send will
get bounced back to you) and the archives of LAC-Discuss will be migrated to
LAC-Discuss-EN (to preserve the record of the past).

HOW TO USE THE NEW LISTS:

1) Emails sent on the Spanish list must be in Spanish likewise, emails
sent to the English list must be in English. When you post to one list, the
post will get translated via machine translation, and then sent through to
the other list automatically, as if you had sent it yourself. You may then
reply as you would normally and the reverse of what happened with the
email you are replying to will happen.

2) It is VERY important that you write emails in the original language which
you speak. If, for example, you write a message in Spanish, and then
translate it via something like Google translate, and them post that to the
English list, when those on the Spanish list receive the Spanish version it
will be unreadable. Please, simply join the list of the ONE language you are
most comfortable writing in, and send emails in that language.

3) At the bottom of every translated email will be a link to the original
message in the original language so you can always see the original text.
In addition, all attachments will get removed and placed in an archive of
their own you will find a hyperlink to the attachments in the email. This
should really help those who have limited bandwidth.

4) All translated emails will be easily identified; there is a line at the
top which identifies what the original language is for the message.

TO JOIN THE LISTS:

You may join the lists now remember, though, that any messages in the
English list archive will likely be lost on 10th October:
