as a Government official, you are legally not allowed to be a member of NomCom (see Bylaws and ethics).
Enjoy the new job - and hopefully we can meet some day - as I am now working here in Brussels (I retired for the same reason).

Hi all - just to give this a bit of context:


You probably know I was rewarded this position earlier, i.e. to be the ALAC Delegate to the NomCom from the European Region. I unfortunately had to step down because I recently accepted a job at the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate as a senior policy advisor within the Directorate Digital Economy (cluster Cybersecurity and Continuity). Starting the 1st of December. This a.o. means that the Dutch GAC will be a direct colleague of mine, and after talking to him we decided not to combine the roles and therefor EURALO needs to find a new delegate to the NomCom.


While noone planned for this situation I am positive we have very capable people in our community and that we’ll find a replacement soon - getting up to speed should not be an issue btw, the actual work for NomCom newcomers has not started yet.

Selection Schedule ALAC Delegate to the NomCom from the European Region:

  *   16 November 2020 - Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
  *   16 November – 22 November 2020 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 5 working days/7 days total).
  *   25 November 2020 - Deadline for nomination acceptances
  *   26 November 2020 – 18:00 UTC Calls with the candidates.
  *   27 November - 1 December 2020 – Online Vote by EURALO Members.
  *   Name (or Names) are sent to the ALAC Chair.
  *   ALAC process to elect the NomCom Member from EURALO.
  *   Newly elected NomCom Member from EURALO shall be seated on 7 December 2020.

Process for Nominations:

Criteria for NomCom Delegates:
The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria.

  *   Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).
  *   Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).
  *   Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).
  *   Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.
  *   Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will potentially involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
  *   Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
