Hi Remmy and others,

indeed, Jimmy - a good friend of mine - passed away already in November 2019, just at the eve of the Berlin IGF. We both developed the idea, to bring the IGF to Germany during an ICC reception at the opening of the IGF in Nairobi in 2011. Jimmy was a "Chief Internet Envangelist" in the German parliament. In 2013 when his party - the "Liberals" - missed the 5% treshold for retunring into the parliament, he remained in our community and joined ICANN´s At Lage Advisory Committee (ALAC) for three years as well as the IGF-D Steering Committee. When is party returned to the Bundestag in 2017, he was appointed to chair the "Committee on the Digital Agenda" in the German Bundestag. Just at the eve of the IGF in 2019, he passed away with less than 60 years of age. He did have cancer. To remember his constructive activities, we called the output document from the 2019 IGF Parliamentarian Rundtable the "Jimmy Schulz Call".

As you have notied, in his "Roadmap on Digital Cooperation" the UN Secretary General of the UN, Antonio Guterres, has included in Paragraph 93c the proposal to launch a "Parliamentarian Track" as part of an IGF+- until 2025. A 2nd Parliamentarian IGF Roundtabe took place during the recent vIGF in November 2020. which refered in its output document also to the Jimmy Schulz Call from 2019.

During the vIGF roundtable the MP from Salvador, Madame Escobar, invited the new Chair of the "Committee on the Digital Agenda" of the German Bundestag, Manuel Höferlin, to continue with the activities, kickstarted by Jimmy years ago and to chair the formation of an inception group to build a permanent "Information Parliamentarian IGF Group" (IPIG). Höferlin accepted the invitation. The recommendation is also included in the output document from the 2020 IGF roundtable (see Annexes).

In the meantime there had been also consultations with the IPU, UNDESA, the IGF Secretariat and others - including the IGF/MAG Strategy WG - to broaden the involvement of parliamentarians in the IGF processes, both at the global as well as at the regional and national level and to enhance communication among MPs and other stakeholders on issues related to the IGF agenda.

I would be happy if you in your community could initiate, promote and encourage a greater involvement of MPs from your national/local community in Internet Governance related activities, inter alia by organising "Parliamentarian Roundtables" as part of a national or regional IGF.

Best wishes

Wolfgang
