[APAC-Discuss] Candidate Statement: Acceptance of Nomination for the Position of APRALO Chair

Hi Everyone,

Sharing below the Candidate Statement:

I graciously accept the nomination for the position of APRALO Chair.

As a person who works with people and representing the interest of end users for over a decade, along with my experience as Vice Chair and in the past as a delegate from APRALO in Nominating Committee, I have developed a reasonable understanding of the opportunities and challenges which APRALO faces today. 

APRALO today faces the challenge of reduced participation and engagement of our members especially post the pandemic, less participation of new people in the policy development processes, and a ready pool of potential next to next generation leaders for APRALO.

All these and more issues need to be addressed so that APRALO continues to be relevant for end users. 

If selected by the community for the role of APRALO Chair, I would attempt to focus on trying to re-engage the community more in the APRALO and At Large process which in the last two years has reduced; further enhance the engagement and communication with the ALSes and individual members by keeping them more informed on the various initiatives; support to build a pool of next generation leaders in APRALO which I feel is very essential;  and support the APRALO community and At large leadership on the initiatives and policy efforts wherever appropriate.

Positions Open:

Terms:

*	ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2022 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2024 AGM.
*	RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2022 AGM.

Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:

*	18 April 2022 -  Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement. (Except for NARALO that requires a call for nominations 30 days before the start of the elections.)
*	18 April 2022 - 29 April 2022 - Nomination period (nominations accepted for 10 working days). 
*	6 May 2022  - Deadline for nomination acceptances
*	9 May 2022 - 12 May 2022 - Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs. 
*	13 May - 20 May 2022 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
*	2022 AGM [ICANN75] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2022 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 22 September 2022.

Process for Nominations: 
All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to  <mailto:staff at atlarge.icann.org> At-Large staff. Criteria for NomCom Delegates:
The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria.

*	Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).
*	Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).
*	Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).
*	Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.
*	Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). May involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
*	Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
