Dear All,

On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to announce that the 2021 call for nominations is now open for positions to be filled as ALAC Members, RALO Leaders and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom.

Positions Open:

Please refer to the 2021 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Workspace <https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2021+ALAC+and+RALO+Elections%2C+Selections+and+Appointments> for a comprehensive list of all available positions and whether current holders of the positions are eligible for re-selection.

The 2021 APRALO Regional Selections Workspac<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2021+APRALO+Regional+Selections>e has specific details on open positions and the process to be followed for APRALO selections.

Terms:

  *   ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2023 AGM.
  *   RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2021 AGM.
  *   ALAC Delegates to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2021 AGM and ending at the close of the 2022 AGM and may be re-appointed for a further term of one year subject to the requirement under the ICANN Bylaws<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.icann.org_resources_pages_governance_bylaws-2Den-23XI-2D2.4e&d=DwMFaQ&c=FmY1u3PJp6wrcrwll3mSVzgfkbPSS6sJms7xcl4I5cM&r=PF9VKOo4nYMGLTtWcHZZreauv03rE96xienOw4tThw4&m=LXMTABfjR3UEsB0XKg_EwG9Rgl0HQEBVPnhhdSx5jq4&s=oz7VarKj2hxjAOH3mhPNCUM5wP_IhP_X5evmAgTcvuY&e=>. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC. The appointment if NomCom delegates is carried out by the ALAC. The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message.

Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:

  *   10 May 2021 -  Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
  *   10 May – 21 May 2021 - Nomination period.
  *   28 May 2021  - Deadline for nomination acceptances.
  *   31 May 2021  - 4 June 2021 - Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs.
  *   7 June - 11 June 2021 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
  *   2021 AGM [ICANN72] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2021 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 28 October 2021.

Process for APRALO Nominations:

The following process must be followed for APRALO nominations:

  1.  Nominations, including self-nominations, must be made directly to the apac-discuss at atlarge-lists.icann.org<mailto:apac-discuss at atlarge-lists.icann.org> list. Any current subscriber to this list can make nominations.
  2.  Nominators must also post the nomination at the 2021 ALAC and RALO Elections, Selections and Appointments Wiki Workspace <https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2021+ALAC+and+RALO+Elections%2C+Selections+and+Appointments> directly, or by sending a mail to At-Large staff;
  3.  A nominee who opts to accept his/her nomination must do so by replying directly to the said mailing list, with a copy to At-Large staff,<mailto:staff at atlarge.icann.org> and must complete or update their Statement of Interest (see: At-Large New SOIs Workspace<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+New+SOIs+Workspace>).
  4.  Apart from the nomination and the acceptance, additional messages  to the said mailing list expressing support for any candidate are not required; and
  5.  For accepted nominations, candidates should also share a brief statement explaining their suitability to the said mailing list with a copy to At-Large staff.
Criteria for NomCom Delegates:

The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria.

  *   Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).
  *   Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).
  *   Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).
  *   Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.
  *   Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). May involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
  *   Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
