[APAC-Discuss] Philippines and Palau [Super Typhoon Haiyan]

Thank you for your concern, Sala and others. "Haiyan" passed well to the
south of Manila so we didn't feel much of it's fury up here, save for gusty
winds overnight. The storm did cut a swath of destruction thru our central
region - the Visayas, where a magnitude 7 quake also struck a few weeks ago.
Rescue and relief operations (including crucially, restoration of communications
and power) are now on-going.

Since this is a (relatively) closed list, i'll share one observation ...
Aside from the usual reports, prayers and calls for assistance, there have been
many posts on FB along the lines of -- "Which are more damaging, even if we just
tote-up the monetary costs, Storms or Senators?" There's more than a bit of
tongue-in-cheek humor in that, but it's also a reflection of a grim problem we
face.

Best,

WYn
