To help more community members to engage in the drafting of the AFRALO-AfrICANN statement, the AFRALO virtual activities group organizes a webinar series on the topics chosen for the AFRALO-AfrICANN joint meetings during ICANN public meetings.

For ICANN 72, we propose to modify the timeline we sent in an earlier mail to permit for a webinar on the chosen topic prior to the closing of the drafting period. The new timeline will be:

16/08 – 29/08             Call for topics

30/08                          Announcement of Selected topic

30/08 – 05/09             Call for drafting team members

06/09                          Announcement of the drafting team composition

07/09 – 25/09             Preparing of the First Draft of Statement

26/09 – 03/10             Comments on the first draft

04/10 – 06/10             Inclusion of the comments received 

07/10                          Send the updated Statement to Staff for translation 

This timeline replaces the one we sent on 11 August.

You may recall that the AFRALO Virtual activities group made a survey in which you gave your preferences for the topics to be addressed in 2021. For your information our previous statements have focused on issues like: Domain Name System (DNS) Abuse, Universal Acceptance, evolving the ICANN Multistakeholder model, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), New gTLD Subsequent Procedures, enhancing ICANN accountability, etc. Please see our previous statements here

The  2 topics that we are yet to  address are  "New gTLDs Geographic Names" and "Data Security". We therefore Suggest that members choose among these 2 topics unless there is an emerging topic that is of great importance for ICANN. In that case, please propose the  topic.
