Dear colleagues,

Thank you all for the nomination via @Nkem for the AFRALO Secretariat role, and all who have supported it.

I am humbled and honoured.

Having been part of ICANN, I was part of the 2016 NextGen programme and mentored new participants through the NextGen Ambassadors’ programme, as well as part of the selection committee. Also, I was an ICANN fellow under the AtLarge mentorship.

Additionally, I have participated in several working groups including but not limited to the Rules of Procedure WG, Right Protection Mechanism WG and the AFRALO Newsletter WG. I have also been a pen holder for different policy comments on IANA transition and ICANN organizational reviews.

Currently, I play an active role at the Africa IGF; I am part of the steering teams of the East Africa and Kenya IGFs. I also serve at the Secretariat and leadership roles of different membership and volunteering organizations such as KICTANet.

I am equally involved in policy and stakeholder engagements in Kenya on a wide array of ICT subjects such as data protection, internet access, cybersecurity and digital inclusion.

I hope to bring these experiences to serve you in this community.

Positions Open:

Terms:

•       ALAC: Terms for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2022 AGM.

•       RALO Leadership: Terms for the RALO Leadership will be as noted on the individual RALO election pages. All terms will start at the end of the 2020 AGM.

  *   27 April 2020 -  Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
  *   27 April – 8 May 2020 - Nomination period.
  *   15 May 2020 - Deadline for nomination acceptances.
  *   18 May – 22 May  2020- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs.
  *   22 May – 29 May 2020 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
  *   2020 AGM [ICANN 69] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2020 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 22 October 2020.



Process for Nominations:
All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate to At-Large staff<mailto:staff at atlarge.icann.org>. Criteria for NomCom Delegates:

  *   Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).
  *   Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).
  *   Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).
  *   Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.
  *   Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
  *   Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
