Dear All,

On behalf of the Board Candidate Evaluation Committee (BCEC), we are seeking Expressions of Interest (EoIs) from individuals who wish to serve as an ICANN Board Director. The selected candidate will serve a 3-year term starting at the end of ICANN69 (2020 Annual General Meeting - AGM).

Background

Seat number 15 of the ICANN Board of Directors is dedicated to a member selected by the At-Large community. This seat is currently occupied by León Sánchez, who assumed the position at the end of ICANN60 (2017 AGM). His 3-year term will be completed at the closing of ICANN69 (2020 AGM), and he will be eligible for re-appointment.

Pursuant to Section 19 of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Rules of Procedure<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/Rules+of+Procedure?preview=/2262672/111389695/ALAC%20RoP-Revision_4-Approved-24October2018.pdf> (RoP), the At-Large community began the selection process for the next Board Director in September 2019, with the appointment of the Chairs and Members of the BCEC and the Board Member Selection Process Committee (BMSPC).

The BCEC is responsible for outlining candidate requirements and expectations, calling for, identifying, and evaluating applications, and compiling the initial slate of candidates. The BMSPC oversees the entire selection process, including the development of the selection timeline and the election process.

Both groups have regionally balanced membership and operate in accordance with a strict code of conduct and confidentiality where applicable. For more information, please visit the At-Large Board Member Selection Home - 2019-2020<https://community.icann.org/display/ABMS/At-Large+Board+Member+Selection+Home+-+2019-2020>.

In accordance with the ALAC Rules of Procedure (RoP), Regional At-Large Organizations (RALOs) may petition to have a candidate added to the slate. The BCEC is expected to finalize its selection by the end of 2019. Following the publication of the BCEC slate, unsuccessful applicants may opt to have their candidacy considered by the five RALOs.

The overall selection process will conclude by Wednesday, 22 April 2020. The successful applicant will be announced on or before that date.

How to Submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) Form

Interested individuals should begin the process by reviewing the At-Large Board Member Candidate Requirements<https://community.icann.org/x/W5YCBw> 2019-2020 and the At-Large Board Member Candidate Reference Links & Resources<https://community.icann.org/x/Z4WGBg>. In particular, please ensure that you meet the eligibility requirements detailed under “Additional Bylaws Qualifications” on the At-Large Board Member Candidate Requirements<https://community.icann.org/x/W5YCBw> page.

Those interested and are eligible should email BCEC Staff<mailto:bcec-staff at icann.org> to briefly indicate your interest. Upon receipt, At-Large staff will provide access to an online EoI Form for your completion. Specifically, applicants are requested to name three (3) to four (4) referees who are willing, at short notice, to provide a written reference for your candidacy when contacted by the BCEC and At-Large staff.

The deadline for submitting an EoI Form for the BCEC’s consideration is 23:59 UTC on Monday, 11 November 2019.

Please email the BCEC Staff<mailto:bcec-staff at icann.org> if you have more questions.

Kind regards,
