Dear Remmy,

It seems that you might have not heard my response to the issue you raised on today’s AfRALO call, I will repeat what I have explained in the call because your email misses important facts and leads to negative conclusions and serious allegations of misconduct without a clear basis of those arguments.

Africa Region ALAC Members ( Nomcom Appointed ):
Hadia has been Africa Region ALAC member for the last 2 years, representing AfRALO in ALAC and attending our monthly conference calls and reporting back to the community about her ALAC activities.

AfRALO has 3 ALAC seats ( 2 Selected by AfRALO and 1 selected by the independent Nomcom selection process ), they all represent AfRALO in the ALAC and are considered members AfRALO.

We had African ALAC members (NomCom appointees) whom at the end or during their term join AfRALO either as ALS representatives or individual members, this is the case of some AfRALO leaders or active members.

The NomCom Selection Process :
One of the most important criteria for the selection of an AfRALO Nomcom representative is being an active participant in AFRALO activities and familiar with AfRALO, At-Large and ICANN community, which was applied to you and Hadia selection be being on the final election ballot. The selection committee rejected the candidate(s) that did not fulfill this criteria requirement. The selection criteria were published and clear, the criteria do not include a specific AfRALO membership affiliation ( e.g ALS representative Vs an ALS member Vs Individual member Vs former AfRALO ALAC member ).

The selection committee followed AfRALO rules, was transparent in its deliberations and included members who have high integrity and respect within AfRALO and the wider ICANN community, indicating that the committee misled the community is very unfortunate.

As a founding member of AfRALO and one of the few remaining members who signed AfRALO's formation MoU with ICANN CEO Paul Tomey in 2007, it's sad to see the recent tenacious emails, the aggressive language which tends throw accusations easily.

I wished your email included the substance of the issue you raised only, As I indicated in the call I am happy to discuss any issues offline and online there is nothing AfRALO leadership is hiding.

I agree with your last paragraph, It's important to learn from different cases or issues have risen, the Nomcom selection process between the RALOs and ALAC need to be enhanced to ensure that the selected candidates meet ALAC requirements especially with ALAC veto power above the RALO selection process.

I thank you and Hadia volunteering for this role and completing a good election.

Best Regards,
Mohamed Elbashir
AfRALO Chair
