[NA-Discuss] This whole resignation thing

OMG.

Speaking as the Secretariat of the region there have been NO such
conversations from the NA region except by one person. I, and others,
realize that just looking at the numbers do not give the entire picture
of what a person is actually doing. I, and many others, are VERY
appreciative of all of the work that you have been putting in and are
willing to "go to bat" for you.

Speaking for myself and for Evan (who is knee deep in work right now but
we've discussed this so I feel that I can): we REALLY hope that you
will continue in your ALAC role (pending other nominations and the
election).

Yourself and Consumers Union have proven to be a HUGE benefit to our
region and I would hate to see you leave on something like this. I
can't speak about the liaison position, seeing that I don't have a vote
or opinion on that. You've been active in outreach and in working
groups (something that many haven't been doing). At every ICANN meeting
that you and I have been at, you've been at EVERY ALAC session (more
than I can say about other ALAC members that I've observed) and putting
in scads of hours on this.

Cheryl has told me that she will be contacting each ALAC member who's
numbers aren't "up to par" and discussing it on a case-by-case means.
We *do* need to have accountability built into ALAC but I, personally,
believe that you have been exemplary - you just got caught by the
numbers. We NEED to have other means of accountability built into this
and Cheryl is working on it. You will remember from Paris that she
tried to do this but, because of miscommunication, it was foiled.

If you go back through the NA-Discuss list, you will notice that there
has been NO other comments on this except by Danny and nobody else has
responded (sorry, Danny, but I've seen what Beau does that isn't covered
by the numbers). If this was a "regional concern" you would have seen
responses to those e-mails. I have absolutely no feeling that it is a
regional concern at all.

Please don't leave!!!

D

NOTE: This e-mail is being sent by myself, speaking for myself
personally, as Secretariat of the region and on behalf of my ALS.
Nothing said above should be seen as coming from any government
whatsoever.

Subject: [NA-Discuss] This whole resignation thing

Dear NA:

This morning in the board liaison candidacy discussion, Alan Greenberg
asked me a question that went something like, "considering the NA region
is calling for your resignation because you don't have time for your
ALAC duties as they currently stand, why should we vote for you for
board liaison?"

Putting aside the board liaison candidacy thing for a moment, I need to
get clear on something.

If I misinterpreted the question (I don't think I did), feel free to
ignore this note. If Alan's question comes from some sort of bias for
Wendy's candidacy versus mine, well hey, that's OK, I'm a big boy and I
don't really see that as a problem. The ALAC will vote for whom it
votes.

But if the NA-RALO is indeed asking for my resignation, I would have
appreciated the opportunity to address it in another forum beforehand,
or would have appreciated hearing it directly from the elected chair of
the NA-RALO rather than from a nomcom appointee. Or, for that matter, I
would have appreciated hearing about it from the chair of the ALAC. If
it's indeed the case, you'll have my resignation in 24 hours -- (914)
378-2018 until 5:30 EST. It would be great to know before the weekend
starts, so I can devote time I would have spent on ICANN matters to
other things.

Some final advice: If you're looking to attract good volunteers to work
in this community, rethink your processes.

Regards,

Beau Brendler
