To everyone on the list I'd like to introduce Glenn, the NARALO rep of
our newest ALS, the Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities
based in Oshawa, Ontario.

And to Glenn:

First of all, as Chair of the North American Region let me welcome you
to our little group. I am certain that you will find things here...
interesting. :-)

Without intending to diminish issues related to Internet access, freedom
of expression, net neutrality or other related matters ... they are
generally beyond the scope of ICANN which is mainly occupied with domain
name and IP address related issues. Keeping focus on that on which we
*do* have a say, such as

    * creation of new top-level domains and supervision of existing ones
    * treatment of domain registrants
    * securing and internationalizing of the DNS
    * balancing the requiremnents of access and privacy related to
      domain ownership

...is work enough.

There are efforts by people here  to have a better relationship between
ICANN At-Large and other Internet governance bodies, so this is not a
cut-and-dried matter. However, for the most part discussion on this list
is limited to those issues which are directly under ICANN's mandate.

I'm more than happy do help clarify that mandate offline if you'd like.
