The Underground Economy is geographically diverse and shows the ability
to generate millions of dollars in revenue for cybercriminals. It is a
self-sustaining system where tools that aid in fraud and theft can be
purchased and the stolen information obtained by those tools can then be
sold. 

The Symantec Report on the Underground Economy is now available for
download. This report provides an analysis of the cybercrime activity in
the underground economy observed by Symantec between July 1st 2007 and
June 30th 2008 for underground economy servers and between July and
September 2008 for software piracy. 

The report includes:
* A discussion of some of the more notable groups involved
* An examination of some of the major advertisers
* An overview of the servers and channels that have been identified as
hosts for trading
* A snapshot of the software piracy using a file-sharing protocol in the
public domain
