I support bringing in more souls here because doing so directly fulfills
the mandate of ICANN At-Large. I have no interest in debating the merits
of the vision behind giving ICANN its own grassroots -- I simply want to
do the best I can to fulfill that vision, given that it exists.
I can appreciate that some people here would prefer that ICANN's
"public" access process be exclusively the realm of NGOs and
squeaky-wheel policy experts. However, ICANN already has a place for
them -- their own constituency, complete with Board vote right now -- NCUC.
At-Large is -- or at least should be -- of a very different character
than NCUC. As such, outreach is indeed needed by ALAC and RALOs in a way
that it will never be needed by NCUC. NGOs who are interested in ICANN,
as Danny says, know where to find it.
It was explicit outreach that brought me and my ALS into the At-Large
community, and I want other groups and individuals -- who are not
traditionally obsessed with Internet policy -- to be invited the same
way we were.
