On behalf of Canadian Internet Registry Authority (CIRA) Nomination  
Committee, I wish to inform Canadians on this list that the deadline  
to  submit a nomination to be considered by CIRA's nomcom  is  the day  
after tomorrow  (May 29th).

Given the activity of some of the Canadians on this list,  I would  
hope that one or more of you consider being considered by CIRA's  
nomcom. CIRA's board, and Canadian internet users would be well served  
with your passion and energy.

Ottawa, May 1, 2008 - Today the Canadian Internet Registration  
Authority (CIRA) announced the start of its 2008 Board of Directors  
Election with a call for nominations for Director candidates.

CIRA is the is the not-for-profit, member-driven organization  
responsible for the management of Canada's dot-ca domain namespace,  
the policies that support Canada's Internet community, and Canadian  
involvement in international Internet governance.  CIRA is seeking  
Director candidates in preparation for its eighth Board of Directors  
Election this September.

Call for Nominations
CIRA seeks dynamic individuals with an interest in managing the future  
of Canada's Internet presence to join its Board of Directors. CIRA’s  
Nomination Committee is accepting public nominations for the Final  
Nomination Committee Slate from noon (12:00h) EDT on May 1, 2008 to  
6:00 pm (18:00h) EDT on May 29, 2008.

CIRA Board of Directors Election Nomination Process
The 2008 CIRA Board of Directors Election features a split ballot  
comprised of candidates from the Final Nomination Committee Slate  
(chosen by the Nomination Committee from public applications and  
nominations) and candidates from the Final Members’ Slate (nominated  
and supported by CIRA Members). Member Nominations will be conducted  
in a separate process commencing July 22, 2008.

CIRA has selected a Nomination Committee responsible for considering  
Nomination Committee Candidates for the Final Nomination Committee  
Slate. A final list of Nomination Committee candidates will be posted  
on CIRA’s website on or before July 15, 2008.

CIRA Board of Directors Election
CIRA Members will elect a total of four Directors during the 2008 CIRA  
Board of Directors Election: three Directors from the Final Nomination  
Committee Slate and one Director from the Final Members’ Slate. All  
Director seats hold a three-year term.

CIRA Members can cast their Board of Directors Election votes from  
6:00 pm (18:00h) EDT on September 18, 2008 to 6:00 pm (18:00h) EDT on  
September 25, 2008 through the CIRA Election website.

Who is Eligible to Become a CIRA Director?
Anyone can nominate themselves or an individual to be considered by  
the Nomination Committee. To be considered by the Nomination  
Committee, nominees must meet the following requirements on or before  
September 18, 2008:

     * Be at least 18 years old
     * Have the power to contract in Canada
     * Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident as defined in the  
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada)
     * Resided in Canada for more than 183 days within the previous  
365 days

Nominees must also submit an online Nominee Application Form that  
includes:

     * Contact information
     * A statement of qualification and experience and how this will  
benefit CIRA as an elected Director
     * Answers to mandatory questions
     * A statement that the nominee meets the minimum qualifications  
to act as a CIRA Board Director
     * Consent to the 2008 CIRA Policy on Nominations and Elections,  
CIRA Election Rules and CIRA’s Code of Conduct and Policy on Conflicts  
of Interest.

CIRA’s Nomination Committee is accepting nominations for the 2008 CIRA  
Board of Directors Election from noon (12:00h) EDT on May 1, 2008 to  
6:00 pm (18:00h) EDT on May 29, 2008. To submit a nomination please  
visit https://elections.cira.ca and complete the online Nomination Form.
