[NA-Discuss] Travel Issues Sub-Report and China Visa

Evan,

Thanks for sharing the info.

I note that form only seems to serve a handful of cities, mostly in western Europe and Canada, with a few Asia-Pacific locations.

We have to remember that at each meeting there is likely someone receiving travel support for the first time, no one knows what to expect. I can attest there is a steep learning curve and you have to keep asking questions as you don’t always get an answer or the right answer.

I know there are folks in the group who do not have CNNIC invitation letters yet and some who do not have hotel documentation yet.

Please keep me updated as to your situations.

-Garth

I received the same instructions as Alan.

I submitted my application to the Chinese consulate in Toronto in person; for "major family members". I just put my wife.

There is an online visa application form that does an excellent sanity check:

https://www.visaforchina.org/web/applicationdata/ApplicationApply_agreement.action?request_locale=en_US <https://www.visaforchina.org/web/applicationdata/ApplicationApply_agreement.action?request_locale=en_US&visacenterCode=YTO1> &visacenterCode=YTO1

At the visa centre they kept the CNNIC invitation (a printed PDF version was acceptable) but gave me back the ICANN one; that seemed useless. I don't recall if they looked at the hotel booking or flight itinerary but they didn't keep that either.

Anyone with further immediate issues might get faster answers from Alan or me than from CT.

(Truth be told, any issues should have been addressed some time ago. This hasn't exactly taken anyone by surprise. Anyone who receives travel subsidy from ICANN still has a responsibility to ensure their own travel affairs are in order; staff can't be expected to understand - let alone anticipate - everyone's individual circumstances. )

Thanks Alan,

I did not receive the instructions, and apparently those who forwarded other
questions didn't get it either.

I think the appropriate response would have been to resend those
instructions or confirm that we had them.

I received a hotel confirmation on ICANN letterhead on Jan 17th, along with
a very detailed description of how to complete the visa application (copy
attached here). I think that this is the guide referred to in red on your
wiki page.

The only thing that was not crystal clear to me was what to fill in
3.6 on Major Family Members. I thought that it was only for family
travelling with you, but they want just what they are asking for.
Specifically, if earlier say you are married, you should include your spouse
here.
