[lac-discuss-en] Important Announcement on the LACRALO ALAC Member Selection

Dear LACRALO members,

It has come to our attention that the nomination of Tracy Hackshaw to the position of LACRALO ALAC member for the term 2020 AGM to 2022 AGM did not comply with the requirements established in ICANN Bylaws 8.8.  (See :  https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/governance/bylaws-en#VII-8). The full text is below:

Section 8.8 INELIGIBILITY FOR SELECTION BY NOMINATING COMMITTEE

"No person who serves on the Nominating Committee in any capacity shall be eligible for nomination by any means to any position on the Board or any other ICANN body having one or more membership positions that the Nominating Committee is responsible for filling, until the conclusion of an ICANN annual meeting that coincides with, or is after, the conclusion of that person's service on the Nominating Committee”.

Accordingly, no one who is currently serving on the Nominating Committee may be nominated for the ALAC.

Tracy is serving as ALAC Delegate to the NOMCOM (period AGM2019-AGM 2020) at the time of his nomination as ALAC candidate.

Therefore, unfortunately the current nomination will have to be declared null as to comply with the requirements.  Tracy will not be able to be a nominee for the open ALAC position at this time.  Tracy has already been informed. This change does NOT affect any of the other LACRALO selections.

The election process for this position will be launched again.

The new election timetable for the position of ALAC member from LACRALO is being developed and will be announced shortly.
