Dear All,

On behalf of Maureen Hilyard, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to announce that the 2020 call for nominations is now open for positions to be filled as ALAC Members, RALO Leaders and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom.

Positions Open:

The LACRALO positions that are open are noted below. Please take note of the sub-regions that candidates must be from according to the LACRALO Operating principles<https://community.icann.org/display/LACRALO/LACRALO+Organising+Documents?preview=/2264378/105388750/ENGLISH%20VERSION%20DEC%20%2017%20Operating%20Principles%2028-08-2018__FINAL_VERSION_EN_with_11-sept_edits%20(003).pdf> and the draft Rules of Procedures.


  *   Chair Elect – CENTRAL AMERICA (SUBREGION A: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama). Note: this position is currently vacant, due to the resignation of the incumbent. The Chair elect will complete the remaining term and will become the Chair in 2021.
  *   ALAC member –CARIBBEAN (SUBREGION C: Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Saint Vincent and The Grenadines, St.Lucia, Saint Kitts&Nevis, Suriname & Trinidad &Tobago)
  *   ALAC Delegate to the Nomcom – MERCOSUR (SUBREGION D, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay)

Terms:

  *   ALAC: Term for the ALAC will run from the end of the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) to the end of the 2022 AGM.
  *   Chair Elect: The Chair Elect will take his seat immediately until the end of the 2021 AGM. As stated in the LACRALO Operating Principles, the Chair elect will become Chair from 2021 until 2023.
  *   ALAC Delegate to the NomCom: Voting members of the NomCom are appointed for a one year term, starting at the close of the 2020 AGM and ending at the close of the 2021 AGM. Each RALO may make one or more recommendations for the consideration of the ALAC.  However, the ALAC will select the final Delegate The criteria for NomCom Delegates are shown at the end of this message.
Selection Schedule for ALAC Members, RALO Leadership, and ALAC Delegates to the NomCom:


  *   27 April 2020 -  Announcement of call for nominations and Nominee's Statement.
  *   27 April – 8 May 2020 - Nomination period.
  *   15 May 2020 - Deadline for nomination acceptances.
  *   18 May – 22 May  2020- Calls with the candidates if desired by the RALOs.
  *   22 May – 29 May 2020 - Elections (If required, elections will begin no later than one week after the deadline for nomination acceptances and end no later than two weeks after that deadline).
  *   2020 AGM [ICANN 69] - Newly elected ALAC Members and RALOs Leaders shall be seated at the end of the 2020 AGM following the close of the Board Meeting on 22 October 2020.

Process for Nominations:

1.   Regional rotation: Confirm that you are a member of an ALS from the country corresponding to the position to which you are applying. Only organizations that have been formally accredited to LACRALO (ALS) can participate in the election as nominators or nominees to hold positions, “observer<https://atlarge.icann.org/individual-members/lacralo>” members of LACRALO are excluded from being able to nominate, be nominated and to vote.

2.    Complete the CONFLICT OF INTEREST ONLINE FORM<https://forms.gle/ouphpUDFkkCfXdWJ7%20%5bforms.gle%5d>

3.   All nominees are expected to submit a brief statement explaining Expression of Interest  (word or PDF file) explaining why they believe they are a suitable candidate for the position to At-Large staff<mailto:staff at atlarge.icann.org>. Nominations, including self-nominations must be made directly to the LACRALO mailing list (lac-discuss-en at atlarge-lists.icann.org<mailto:lac-discuss-en at atlarge-lists.icann.org>) with the subject line: LACRALO NOMINATION 2020 , as well as post it to the 2020 LACRALO ElectionsWorkspace<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/2020+LACRALO+Regional+Selections>. and by sending a note to At-Large staff<mailto:staff at atlarge.icann.org>.

Criteria for NomCom Delegates:

The NomCom is responsible for selecting members of the ICANN Board, ALAC, ccNSO and GNSO. This is a very important function and all candidates should meet important criteria.

  *   Familiarity with the ICANN groups to which the NomCom appoints (Board, ALAC, GNSO, ccNSO).
  *   Ability to judge people (such as when interviewing and hiring).
  *   Comfortable and preferably fluent with English (listening, reading, speaking).
  *   Good on-line skills such as on Google & Social media.
  *   Time Commitment - Must be willing to devote substantial time under tight deadlines (March-June). Will involve travel to up to 4 meetings.
  *   Ability work in a group environment, standing up for what you believe in a discussion with other "strong" people, but at the same time, must be a good listener and be willing to change your mind if someone else has a good argument. Diplomacy is important.
