So I'm looking to find a reason to care here. Here is what I know.

The SSAC has long advised they see no significant heightened threat to the
security and stability of the DNS with a single character name at the 2nd
level.

Single character names are already delegated both in the generic TLD space
as well as the ccTLD space. We know there are three (3) such names already
delegated in the gTLD .com space; x.com, q.com, z.com. All such possible
others are reserved, including the registered one if ever they are allowed
to expire.

As one example from the ccTLD world, single character names are known to
exist in the .co [Colombia] space. This aside, I am unaware of any
reservations in the ccTLD world.

We know single character domain names are very valuable; multi-millions
have been spent to acquire them. The auction or bilateral contract appears
to be the preferred routes to acquire one.

Verisign desires the release of one more to the .com space and has followed
the process in established policy; the RSEP.

Verisign has devised and proposed some convoluted way to deny itself the
windfall it expects; it will donate to proceeds, minus their regular domain
name registration fee and costs, to some do-gooder organisation for
distribution as charity to organisations with values and objectives the
community would tend to support.

Verisign has also attached some conditions in the RSEP that makes this
domain name the gift that keeps on giving for a number of years of
registration renewals, upto 25 years.

Other than maybe ensuring that an entity committed to our shared values and
objectives domiciled or working in this region is a potential benefactor,
I'm struggling to find a negative end user issue worthy of comment here.

Did I miss something?

-Carlton
