Antonio,

Thank you very much for sharing this text. It is of relevance for LACRALO because it creates an asymmetric situation in Internet governance that directly affects the global multisectorial management of the domain name system. The states are against the "appropriation" of geographical names of the region in gTLDs -
at the same time they talk about a multistakeholder management! While it is true that many actors participate in e-LAC, its state / multilateral character remains one of its main characteristics.

It should also be noted that the statement and surrounding documents do not refer to aspects of the Internet that are often repelled by the operators of telecommunications networks, which have a weight in ECLAC decisions disproportionate to that of the Internet community. An example is the exclusion of any mention of net neutrality in the Internet governance objectives and principles that they enact.Another is the approach to the treatment of personal data, in which the limitations to private actors are not accompanied by those corresponding to state actors.

The community of LACRALO must be attentive to follow up on these matters. Some members of this community will have participated in various levels of activity in the preparation and conduct of the e-LAC meeting; It will be healthy - and transparent - to tell us more.
