Vanda,

may I recommend the addition of an indicator to the "marketplace health index": number and fraction of defensive domain-name registrations.

There are studies by people like Ben Edelman ior similar approaches that look at this question and they should be performed periodically.

Monitoring the aftermarket is also very important. If there is an active aftermarket it may mean that the names are actually in demand and in use.

Both indicators together are useful to see if users of DNS registrations are indeed finding unused names for their products and services, or whether, in the contrary sense, there is an unacceptable level of cybersquatting and consumer-unfriendly speculation with the new names.

The health Index proposal for gTLD marketplace is open to vote. I have already made my  suggestion during comment period  and it was added to final text.
My intention is to vote in favor to ratification of the ALAC Statement. The vote period will end this Friday. If you haven’t read the text , please do, and let me know if you all agree with such vote.
