Well, as far as I know, and since at least 2005, the official notification
of a new ALS is the vote by ALAC, NOT the courtesy welcome email referred
to here.

I'm also at a loss regarding the "objection" post "notification" you refer
to - there has never been such process. Any objection is from the region,
and is registered BEFORE the ALAC vote.

Of course, I'm sure current ALAC members can clarify what the current
procedure is, if it has indeed changed, but I  have found no record of such
a radical change in policy.
