ICANN staff is seeking comments on its Preliminary Issue Report on the
Current State of the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP).

The Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) was created in 1999 with
the goal of providing an alternative to costly litigation for
resolving international disputes concerning cybersquatting in generic
Top Level Domains (gTLDs).

The Preliminary Issue Report on the Current State of the UDRP can be found at
http://gnso.icann.org/issues/prelim-report-current-state-udrp-27may11-en.pdf

The Preliminary Issue Report describes how the UDRP has addressed the
problem of cybersquatting to date and makes recommendations on whether
ICANN's Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council should
review the UDRP. The Preliminary Issue Report will be updated to
reflect community feedback received and a Final Issue Report will then
be presented to the GNSO Council for its consideration as to whether
the GNSO Council should review the UDRP.

A webinar was held on the current state of the UDRP on May 10 2011.
You can review the webinar at https://community.icann.org/x/povT

José Francisco Arce has posted his comments regarding the preliminary
Issue Report, following the LACRALO conference call on July 7 2011.
José Arce's comments can be found at
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/877052/lacralo-comments/UDRP-comments.pdf

The deadline for comments on this preliminary issue report is July 15
2011. ALAC will be drafting a statement on this report at
https://community.icann.org/x/zIUKAQ so LACRALO has (at best) a day to
submit any comments to ALAC for possible inclusion.
