Dear Colleagues:Jacqueline's observations are well worth our reflection.
Our ultimate objective is the best possible Board Liaison for all At-Large.
For the record, I believe Alan is and remains Canadian.
It is not unusual for LAC to support a North American for Board Liaison.
Afterall, Wendy was elected with LAC support. The issue now is that we
have two eminently qualified candidates duly nominated, one from outside the
region. And while we would have a natural affinity for a candidate from our
region, it degrades our candidate if we give the impression we support her
purely on regional solidarity. Vanda's knowledge and experience is more
than that. So it would be bad judgment and worse politics. For in the end
and it comes to the vote, LACRALO can only instruct 2 votes of 15 how to
vote. We need to build collaborations and alliances if our position will
prevail. And now is not a good time to appear parochial to the rest of the
world.
This is what makes a lot of sense to me.
