I endorse Jacqueline's comments; it is better than nothing to have emails
translated, even if imperfect.

Unfortunately, the everyday working language of the ICANN world is English.
So most conversations of interests, long before official documents are
developed, are in English. Knowledge of conversation English is then a very
useful thing for deep involvement in the discussions that lead to the
documents.

LACRALO led the fight for translation in ICANN and we have seen success in
having official documents translated in 5 languages, including Spanish.
At-Large staff will tell you that those are still sparingly used.

Until the automated translation systems improve, I'm afraid the best low
budget solution is to use Google Translate like I do. Alternatively, I call
on the translation skills of a member of my staff. Or, my daughter.
