Dear Alexander:
Many thanks for your suggestions. I agree with you that it would be useful
to have candidates express their views on the several policy discussions now
on in ICANN and ALAC. Mexico City will certainly not allow time for much
debate. So it is upto the membership to ask these questions *on this list*now.
Indeed, one reason for asking for nominations for ALAC representative BEFORE
Mexico City was to enable the membership enough time to ask questions on the
discussion list and allow for reflective responses. And we still have
time.
You should also know that existing LACRALO Operating Principles expect our
representative to ALAC to offer the consensus view of LACRALO and not
their personal
views in policy discussions at ALAC. This has not worked as well as it
ought to. Because for this to work well, it will require informed opinions
of members to be communicated to our representatives. To be informed
requires a lot of self-education and reading. And to be brutally frank, we
hardly get informed feedback on policy matters from our membership.
This is another opportunity for meaningful participation.
