[LAC-Discuss] RES: FW: Forthcoming LACRALO GA

I do believe RALOs should make a formal protest and post it. My suggestion is a more philosophical approach which makes more repercussion around the ICANN community than just complain about it - just complain may be just ignored by other community member as a "one more complain from at large group blablabla."
By philosophical approach I mean analyzing the propaganda and the reality when it is about the general community. Talking about ICANN values - its mission etc.
I am not a native English person to help that much, but I can exchange some ideas if the other are interested .

Seems to me that ICANN is reneging on its obligations and yes, we should at
least protest. It would be preferable that we sign-on to one powerful
statement from the RALOS to ICANN.

Quite frankly, the At-Large organization remains the 'fig leaf' ICANN offers
the world that the opinions of others than the USG is of value so it is in
their interest. And while it is slick propaganda, they would be shooting
themselves in the foot to be seen as undermining the work and role of the
At-Large, which is exactly what this is.

Avri Doria has an interesting twist to this on the Governance list and that
has always been where I am: ICANN is and remains an American corporation
with the outlook and sensitivities of an American corporation and will
remain so in the foreseeable future. All we are doing is to temper its
behaviour.

Carlton

Hi
NARALO has indicated the following information with regard to the ICANN
travel policy, so there may be repercussions for the LACRALO GA
(specifically note the item 3):
See below
Jacqueline

Hi all,

During the meetings in Paris is came to light that the Board put through a
resolution to reduce ALAC’s travel. This was slipped through and didn’t
even follow the wording in the “Draft Travel Support Procedure” document of
May 22, 2008. We owe a huge THANK YOU to Alan Greenberg for catching this
as neither Evan nor I nor the rest of the ALAC caught this when it happened.
The affects of these cuts to the ALAC travel would mean:

1.	Only ½ of the ALAC would be funded for travel for meetings – the
rest would have to self-fund
2.	No Secretariats or Chairs attending meetings
3.	No travel support for ALSs to attend regional meetings.

Therefore, it was decided during the last NARALO telephone conference that
we convene a mini-WG (comprised of Gareth Shearman, Evan and myself) to come
up with a formal response. We have drafted the attached document. Please
have a look at this ASAP and get back to us (on or before Friday, August 8,
2008) with any changes or additions you might like OR stating that you do
not support it at all (as we must have consensus).

Thank you,

D
