What this Secretariat need is a database-driven solution with a formatted –
meaning form-based – user interface that can be personalized for the
capture, storage, transfer and reporting any number of pieces of membership
information and routine correspondence typical to the operation of a
membership organization.

 

So now, how do we get to this?

 

We could always go the application development route and develop our own
custom application from scratch.  With regret, this Secretariat has neither
the time nor required resources for such an investment. Of course, we would
embrace volunteers for this effort with certain gratitude.  But given the
response we got for even looking at the demonstration, I am challenged to
assume a better response from the polity.  

 

Alternately, we could examine and accept a solution that is already
available and doing the work – the kind of work – that LACRAO would be
engaged. To be perfectly blunt, I am disinclined to reinvent wheels and so
this is my preferred approach.  This is principally why I took the time to
look at the demonstration and read some of the testimonials hosted.
Furthermore, if you look at feature set versus the cost of the solution and
assay the time, effort and cost to the contrary approach – the old cost
benefit analysis – the balance of the evidence is compelling for a
favourable decision on the platform. 

 

Now, this is not to say I would be opposed if anyone else would wish to look
for other such solutions and propose them; this is indirectly advised in my
earlier message and there is still time to do so.  But quite frankly, this
Secretariat simply does not have the wherewithal to invest in further
effort.  But I am certainly open to be advised of a better solution and deal
that meet our several and sundry objectives.  The single requirement at this
stage: do it quickly.

 

In regard of the language support, you may recall that I am for an
enterprise solution for all of ICANN. [What can I tell you, I tend to think
like a corporatist on business operations matters!]  I believe the consensus
from that discussion was we should not wait for that but go with the
Alfa-Redi recommended service.  I believe cost and immediacy of need were
the main reasons this solution gained traction.  From my perspective, it is
what I would call a ‘good enough’ solution and so I have embraced it. And as
at yesterday afternoon, I requested and Nick provided guidance on the form I
need to execute to move the acquisition along. I see this working in the
following way: most of what would require translation would’ve already been
aired and discussed on the lists.  Anything we’d need to move from this list
to the platform – for voting and such – would have already been translated
and available for copying.

demostración, yo soy desafiado a asumir una mejor respuesta del sistema de
gobierno. 

 

Alternamente, podríamos examinar y poder aceptar una solución que está ya
disponible y hacer el trabajo – la clase del trabajo – que LACRAO sería
comprometido. Para ser perfectamente embotado, soy desmotivado reinventar
las ruedas y tan esto es mi enfoque preferido. Esto es principalmente por
qué yo tomé el tiempo de mirar la demostración y leer parte del testimonial
recibido. Además, si usted mira el conjunto de la característica contra el
costo de la solución y el aquilatamiento el tiempo, el esfuerzo y el costo
al enfoque opuesto – el análisis de costo-beneficio viejo – el equilibrio de
la evidencia obliga para una decisión favorable en la plataforma. 

 

Ahora, esto es de no decir que sería opuesto si nadie desearía más buscar
otras tales soluciones y los propone; esto es aconsejado indirectamente en
mi mensaje más temprano y hay todavía tiempo de hacer así. Pero bastante
francamente, esta Secretaría simplemente no tiene los medios para invertir
en el esfuerzo adicional. Pero estoy ciertamente abierto ser aconsejado de
una mejor solución y el trato que encuentran nuestro varios y los objetivos
diversos. El solo requisito en esta etapa: lo hace rápidamente. 

 

En la consideración del apoyo del idioma, usted puede recordar que soy para
una solución de la empresa para todo ICANN. ¡[lo que puede yo le digo,
tiendo a pensar como un corporativista en asuntos de operaciones de
negocio]! Creo que el consenso de esa discusión fue nosotros no debe esperar
que pero ir con el Esparto-Redi el servicio recomendado. Creo que el costo y

ventilado y habría sido discutido en las listas. Algo nosotros
necesitaríamos mover de esta lista a la plataforma – para votar y tan – ya
habría sido traducido y disponible para copiar.

 I didn't get the MemberClick test drive - I did log on a couple of times
but didn't get to see the features.

I'd like to know which other solutions you checked before making this
decision, just in the interest of having this info to support the decision
- I'd feel more comfortable with a needs analysis, and then a comparison of
at least 3 potential solutions and the reasons why the particular one was
chosen. From what I can see and what Jean and Larry and John L. wrote
earlier, quite a bit of this functionality can be easily implemented within
the icannalac.org website, and the wiki is there as well. 

There is one more very important question for LAC - how does memberclicks
deal with multiple languages? 

Note - I'm not necessarily against it - just like to go through clear and
transparent processes - esp just after getting slapped down by the
ombudsman! This process would not necessarily take long, but would
definitely g a long way towards clarifying our needs, our expectations of
hte software, and most importantly, our  work processes.

Esteemed Colleagues:

Speaking of which, the time has come for a database driven solution to
handle and host most if not all of the membership management processes for
the LACRALO. I am speaking particularly of things like maintaining
membership lists of ALS and their accredited representatives, single
globally accessible place to place resolutions that come from our
discussions, a place to take and record votes on resolutions etcetera. 

 

Nick has proposed the membersclick operation -
<http://www.membersclick.com/> www.membersclick.com - as a possible
solution.  A demonstration site was prepared for ICANN and we were
encouraged to take the test drive.  I did and gave my feedback. Regrettably,
that site is no longer available.   But it is my view that we need such a
solution and quick.

 

Be assured that is an additional resource; it will not replace the
established discussion lists and listservs now in place.  Barring a strong
consensus AGAINST and contingent on this expressed by close of business
Friday, 2nd February, 2007, this Secretariat is inclined to request a
subscription to Membersclick on your behalf thru the ICANN At-Large
Supporting Organization.

manejada para manejar y recibir la mayoría del si no todos los procesos de
