Who can decide to modify our cross community project named "ICANN Academy"
into a "leadership training"? I believe that we should continue to develop
our project without consideration of this communication from the finance
department that has no say in how we call it or what we put in (Leadership
training is a very small part of our project).
As for IGF, I suspect Mandy will contact us very soon. If she doesn't do, a
formel request should be made by ALAC (Heidi could help regarding her close
relationship with Mandy).

I am somehow unhappy about the ICANN Academy being transformed into
"Leadership Training" and tagged under "At-Large" when this is now a
cross-community effort with a cross-community WG in place.
IMHO this document does not shed much light on how to proceed forward with
our APRALO & AFRALO IGF workshops, nor the ICANN Academy.

Dear Community Leaders,
As you know, the Board approved the Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) Budget and
Operating Plan on 23 June in Prague.
The treatment of the various SO and AC Budget requests was reflected in the
FY13 Adopted Budget posted on the ICANN Finance webpage last month (see -
This communication is intended to clarify what has been approved and what
staff will be implementing (in most cases with you) over the next
As presented in Appendix A of the FY13 budget document, not all individual
SO and AC requests could be funded as proposed.
To account for the wide variety of proposal types and to accommodate as many
requests as possible, the individual requests have been combined by common
subject matter, issues or activities into one of 7 Notes that explain the
approved and funded project work. It is within these combined Notes that
your approved request will be implemented.
Attached please find an overall summary of each of the resourced projects,
which now identifies the ICANN staff member who has been designated to
coordinate each of the approved activities.
If you have not already been contacted, expect to hear soon from each
staffmember about how they intend to coordinate with you to implement each
The Finance Team will coordinate with each staff implementer to assure that
resources are correctly tracked and managed throughout the life of each
activity so that we collectively can assess the success of each effort that
is undertaken this fiscal year. We would like to continually refine and
improve this process on a go-forward basis.
Many thanks to all of you who have worked with us to move this effort
forward. It has been a learning experience we hope to build on with you,
together, in future budgeting efforts.
