By Sally Costerton, Interim President and CEO

On behalf of the ICANN organization (org), I’d like to thank everyone who participated in this Community Forum in person and online.

Over the past week, members of the ICANN community, Board, and org collaborated to advance discussions and policymaking on the most pressing issues that ICANN is facing. By working together, we can solve problems and deliver a sustainable, interoperable Internet for all.

We should all be proud of holding another productive and inclusive ICANN Public Meeting. I look forward to seeing you again soon at ICANN80 in June!

ICANN Contingent Visits Puerto Rico Capitol

[Photo of the ICANN delegation visiting the Puerto Rico Capitol]

An ICANN delegation including Board Chair Tripti Sinha and Interim President and CEO Sally Costerton visited the Puerto Rico Capitol building during ICANN79. The group had the opportunity to meet the president of the Senate, José Luis Dalmau Santiago, and learn more about the rich history and culture of Puerto Rico.

We are grateful for our host, Dr. Pablo Rodriguez, Executive Vice President at NIC. PR, for coordinating this visit.

As ICANN Board Chair Tripti Sinha shared in her welcome speech at ICANN79, the Board continues to work to fulfill its critical responsibility of selecting ICANN's next President and CEO. Last year, we held extensive listening sessions with stakeholders from across ICANN and the Internet ecosystem, whose input helped shape the candidate profile and position description.

The search process is ongoing but well advanced. It has yielded an experienced and diverse candidate pool from across the globe. The Board is diligently working toward identifying the individual who has the right temperament and balance of personal, management, and technical skills to lead ICANN during these exceptional times, and into the next chapter of its journey.

In October 2023, the Number Resource Organization Executive Council (NRO EC) reached out to the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC) and asked its members to review a draft of the implementation procedures for the Internet Coordination Policy 2 [nj88a9rab.cc.rs6.net]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/nj88a9rab.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=0012xgfxGAOX8qfA3KGitZe7_aV8c-5s1wtUDBnJIdPeAMDeIgm_wcU-dHvyqclxu4feKvftM5OU0ndEOR3vXyNKNCRtoOOEIX1TCKcvoMsoHOCC83avYOcBzbQjmVrvcjEhy9pz8cEATfWJtAU6c1oml-pTOHa8-7Fp7fmz-ZLoV5niSgg3rui8ntMLCDT020XjncUoeBwVdZgQHDShU0thw==&c=DDKISYVNGHXuCWjnSHDR-YwDnObHxuwou--Zu6aAqgEckyMu7A5pnw==&ch=Gzhi9ECsdSXobnOo7W_NKfTnIcHVZHTHx1fEojco4VO432o-Ic9WLg==__;!!PtGJab4!_HjKJLetiGlciDyOphLrwv_kANc69LxvuNNIJEJ5FeJKZiCQY5iwf6jBwsQn2v6QW0EnOpSSXG2Q4I1jOYw7ZEe5CNHOl3nW3Wd3cc4ird5irPNY$> (ICP-2). The NRO EC also requested the ASO AC to strengthen the ICP-2 by developing an initial draft of an updated version of ICP-2. During ICANN79 public work sessions, the ASO AC reviewed a timeline to complete these two tasks and had a discussion about the principles in creating an updated version of the ICP-2.

Highlights
· ASO AC reviewed a timeline and identified opportunities to collect feedback from the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) communities and ICANN community in 2024 and 2025

· ASO AC held substantial discussions on which principles should be included in drafting an updated version of the ICP-2

· ASO AC partnered with the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) to offer a public information session, “Let’s Talk About Numbers,” featuring a presentation on the allocation of the number resources.

Next Steps
The ASO AC will continue to review the principles in drafting an updated version of the ICP-2 during weekly teleconference sessions. Once an updated version of the ICP-2 has been drafted, the ASO AC will consult with the RIR communities and ICANN community and collect feedback.

This April, the Middle East DNS Forum (MEDNSF2024), organized by ICANN and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) of Morocco, will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. Taking place from 24 to 25 April 2024 in Rabat, Morocco, this milestone event marks the first time the forum will convene in Morocco.

This year's theme, "Celebrating Progress in the Middle East's DNS Journey," highlights advancements in digital infrastructure and Internet usage over the past decade.

Key discussions will revolve around promoting digital inclusivity, mitigating DNS abuse, enhancing operations and security, and sharing best practices for domain name management. With sessions addressing cybersecurity, the multilingual internet, and regulatory frameworks, the forum offers a platform for networking and collaboration.

Join us for MEDNSF2024 to explore the evolving digital landscape of the Middle East. Natalia Filina, a management and marketing specialist, joined the ICANN community in January 2018, becoming a member of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) soon after. She is a founding member of the Dynamic Teen Coalition at the Internet Governance Forum. Over the past six years, she actively participated in every ICANN Public Meeting, attending five in person.

Filina brings an unbridled enthusiasm to ALAC, aiming to raise awareness of ICANN’s mission and promote change. Her focus includes Applicant Support, Internationalized Domain Names, and digital inclusion, all the while underscoring the importance of the multistakeholder model.

To Filina, "In moments of serenity or upheaval, we should be united and committed to the main mission – ensuring the Internet’s stability, security, and advancement for everyone.”

WELCOME NEXTGEN at ICANN

“Inclusivity in Internet governance is not a mere aspiration but a necessity.”

Linda Fraga
Brazil

A professional in digital marketing and technology, Linda Fraga’s interest in ICANN stems from a firsthand understanding of the profound impact of Internet governance on online ecosystems and user experiences. Throughout her career, she has actively engaged with online content dissemination, user behavior analysis, and the intersection of technology with information accessibility.

This naturally led Fraga to develop a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities in managing information flows in the digital space, forming a strong foundation for her interest in ICANN's mission. She is currently based in Miami, pursuing a Master of Business Administration at One League University, and has been involved in the Youth Brazil Program for Internet Governance for five years. ICANN79 will be the first ICANN event for Fraga.

Susan Payne
Intellectual Property Constituency

"I joined the Intellectual Property Constituency (IPC) so that I could be more involved in the protection of IP rights in the DNS. I work with businesses, in their capacities as registrants of domain names, dotBrand TLD operators, and brand owners seeking to protect consumers from fraudulent and deceptive misuse of their trade marks. The IPC provides a forum to collaborate on inputs to policy development, build awareness of the importance of IP enforcement in the DNS, and share experiences with colleagues."
