Dear Colleagues,

24H elapsed after the consensus call, with only emails of support received for Olawale (Wale) Bakare.

Is it therefore my pleasure to confirm that Wale has been selected by acclamation as the next EURALO Secretary. As mentioned in my earlier email, Wolf Ludwig has offered Wale his mentoring assistance so we have a smooth transition of duties. The hand-over will take place at the forthcoming ICANN meeting in Abu Dhabi.

I would like to thank Wolf for his years of faithful service in EURALO. He has kept EURALO going for so many years - this truly is an achievement, in a region where everyone is already so busy and where the potential incentives that can be found on some of the other continents, are not so significant where people take the Internet for granted.
The European region spans so large and is so diverse that we have all sorts of challenges - from the geographical balance that we need to have, to the fact that some parts of our region have access problems that are as significant as in poorer parts of the world. The contrast is such, that ICANN has two Regional VPs to cover the region. Wolf has successfully navigated this complex environment for many years, even before the Regional VPs were in place, and I'd like to really thank him for that. I'd also like to thank him for having helped me into the position of EURALO Chair. I had worked with him in the past when I was assuming the position of Secretary and he taught me a lot. So much so that I consider him not only a colleague, but also a friend.

Thank you Wolf.

Please join me in a round of applause for him.

EURALO Chair

Dear colleagues,

on 4 September 2017, At-Large Staff initiated a call for candidates for the position of EURALO Secretary. The position that came up for renewal was held so far by the incumbent Wolf Ludwig.

I have been informed by staff who have updated the EURALO Secretariat Election Page on https://community.icann.org/display/EURALO/EURALO+Secretariat+Election+2017, that one self-nomination was received from Olawale Bakare - his SOI being available on the election page.

No application having been received from anyone else, unless I hear to the contrary within 24H (consensus call), I would propose that we welcome Olawale (Wale) Bakare as the next EURALO Secretary by acclamation.

Wolf and Wale have already been in touch with each other and Wolf has proposed mentoring Wale as much as possible to help him into the position. The new candidate will assume his position starting at the end of the ICANN AGM in Abu Dhabi.

Kindest regards,

Olivier MJ Crépin-Leblond
EURALO Chair
