Thanks Wolfgang for the nomination. I would be happy to stand and to serve
if elected. However, I suppose there¹s an antecedent policy question for
the group, which is whether it¹s ok that I¹m from the US (I tried to get
Italian citizenship, but since my grandparents gave theirs up I didn¹t
qualify). I¹ve been living in Geneva for four years though, am pretty
familiar with the Euro landscape re: Internet governance and civil society,
and am intellectually and politically not your standard gringo, if there is
such a thing. So if residency and outlook trump passport I¹ll stand, if
not, then not.
BTW I¹ve read through the list archive, so while I¹ve not been involved in
the process here previously, I think I have a decent sense of what¹s what
and could fill in any blanks as I go.
For those who don¹t know me, I¹m an academic and work on ICT/Internet global
governance issues. With respect to civil society involvements, I¹ve been an
active member of the Internet Governance Caucus throughout the WSIS/IGF
processes, served as a CS participant on the WGIG and now on the advisory
board of the Global Alliance for ICT4D, etc. I also spent three years on
the board (with Desiree, also nominated here) and two years as President of
Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility, a global NGO that had
about 1,000 members, 70 + in Europe (not sure of the numbers now). Given
this and other aspects of my background I think I could handle the demands
of promoting ALS outreach and involvement. If anyone wants to know more
about me, see the URL in my sig file below.
Cheers,
Bill
