[EURO-Discuss] Possible EURALO statement on CoE issue paper

Dear All,

At the end of the EURALO call yesterday (16 Dec) , a EURALO
statement was suggested on the CoE issue paper “The rule of law on the Internet
and in the wider digital world”, published on 8 December. We were out of time so Wolf suggested
that people read it and discuss it on the list.

The paper (including recommendations) is very interesting, an important
contribution to the discussion on the Internet and human rights also from an
end-user perspective. The only thing I was troubled by was a somewhat
stereotypic and overblown vision of the US dominance of the Internet. A possible EURALO statement could perhaps
take issue with that, and also point out what is missing from the paper, like the quickly deteriorating FoE environment in
Russia.

The issue paper is available at: http://www.coe.int/en/web/commissioner/issue-papers

Best,

Yrjö
