[EURO-Discuss] ACTA Letter to the members of the European Parliament

Dear all,
ISOC - Bulgaria managed to do slightly more than that (with the help of
many others, of course): all Bulgarian MEP have issued a declaration
against ACTA. The government has temporary stopped the ratification
process officially. The Party of the European Socialists issued a very
strong statement, and it was largely due to the president of PES, and
ISOC member - former Bulgarian PM Sergei Stanishev, who joined ISOC in
2000 (sic!).
Of course, in the light of the current decision of the EC to send the
issue to the ECJ, we have shifted our focus, and have gone public on the
Bulgarian National public radio to say that we understand the EC admits
its incompetence (if they thought ACTA is OK, why send it to the ECJ?),
but also that we would like the EC to submit ACTA for impact assessment,
and analysis of how it will influence the basic rights of the EU
citizens. We also urge the EC to ask the right question about the
balance between the interest of the copyright holders and the users.

We'll see if the EU politicians will pick some of our proposals this
time again.

best,
veni

So far, replies have been received from the Greens group, who say they are against ACTA, and from the Finnish vice chair of the ALDE group, along with video showing her question about the effects of ACTA at the session of the Parliament.

What I get to know via my various channels is MUCH more than what is exchanged on this list ;-) Please be more pro-active in sharing infos!

>>> Dear Wolf,
>>>
>>> On February 2 ISOC Belgium addressed a message to a group of Belgian MEPs as well as to the Belgain minister of Economy and Telecommunications on the ongoing debates around ACTA. We got very quickly some response from the EU MEPs indicating us that at that moment nothing was yet decided even if BE MEPs had voted positively. They also mentioned us that our remarks and input would certainly influence their position. Furthermore, this was also the lever for the Belgian minister to request a study about the impact and consequences for Belgian government and citizens. So, we may say that our action at national level has been very positive.
