[EURO-Discuss] Results from the 2nd consultation round on BD selection

Dear Wolf,

I am copying this to the ABSdt for its post-election briefing.
Your determination in mobilising European At Large Structures was
exemplary. Thank you very much Wolf, I know it has monopolised your life
for the second half of the week and whilst you did not *need* to do
this, it was a choice you made so you deserve all the credit for this.

As an explanation to the ABSdt, and just for the record, the first round
of EURALO ALS voting saw the following results:

Sébastien Bachollet: 7 (36.84%)
Alan Greenberg: 6 (31.58%)
Abstain: 4 (21.05%)
Pierre Dandjinou: 2 (10.53%)

This showed a small lead from Sébastien, but not enough to automatically
warrant the EURALO Leadership vote for the second round, especially
since the sum of the abstentions and votes for Pierre far exceeded any
difference, thus keeping the vote as open as ever.
Whilst the first round had followed the guideline minimum of 5 days for
ALSes to vote, the second round only allowed for 3 days or less. Wolf's
determination in getting in touch with each ALS made sure that as many
ALSes as possible were consulted in this short span of time.

In addition to providing the best voice for our European At Large
structures, thus providing a channel for real bottom-up process, it also
sets a precedent and example for future At Large Board Director selections.
I hope that the ABSdt will consider this experience to draft a document
detailing:

- minimum voting time periods given to ALSes (for more than one round if
necessary)
- expectations on the level of involvement required from a regional
Chair to make sure as many ALSes vote
- lessons learnt re: anything that went wrong

and to consider integrating it within the selection & At Large rules of
procedure.
Perhaps a few lessons from the Petition process can be learnt too.
