[Euro-board] WG: [EURO-Discuss] ICANN Board candidate (Seat 15) Regional consultations – your support needed!

Hello,

as you may have noticed before, we had to select a Proxy Voter for Jean-Jacques Subrenat until beginning of this week, and there was one self-nomination by Oksana only. Lutz indicated his interest in a direct exchange with me but didn’t dare to suggest himself. And as he was not nominated on the list until Friday midnight (I need to stay neutral in this respect), Oksana is now the only candidate for this proxy vote.

But as noted before, there are still some URGENCIES for the ICANN Board candidate (Seat 15) selection and voting consultations among our members – where I NEED your support!

To start such a consultation on a preferred regional candidate (out of the five) – as we did fairly well last time in 2010 – this needs some mobilization of our community. OR, if nobody cares, such a consultation process doesn’t make much sense (except a lot of work for me).

As a next step, I will invite the five candidates to forward a brief summary of their EOI to the EURALO list because nobody will read (or has the time to) extensive PDFs of the candidates. And they may use this opportunity for a presentation to our members until the end of week – further details you can find on the Workspace:
https://community.icann.org/display/ABMS/At-Large+Board+Member+2014+Selection

According to the narrow timeline of the Board Member Selection process, we need to conduct our regional consultation on the five candidates until Sunday, 16 March (!) – to allow the Chair (who is part of the electorate as well) a *directed vote from our community*, as we did in 2010. Based on the experience from 2010, there won’t be a “winner” in the first round vote and we may need to conduct a 2nd regional consultation on the final candidates early April.

But as said before, such a consultation needs *a solid feedback quorum of more than 50 per cent of our membership* at least – otherwise it will be useless or badly substantiated!

To my memory, this Board was asking in Lisbon for “getting more involved in EURALO’s regular tasks” – here you have a best chance to support the chair to get this done! And I don’t see any good reason why I should mobilize and chase our members just by myself and for my own pleasure again.

Thanks for any favourable consideration and support!

Kind regards,
Wolf

>Further to this, one of our ALAC members who are part of the electorate is personally involved as one of the candidates (Jean-Jacques Subrenat) and needs to be replaced for the voting –- for more details see:

>As discussed tonight, we would like to ask you for suggestions of names to replace Jean-Jacques Subrenat in the upcoming voting. As the timeframe is short for this (4th March) you can name suitable replacements until Friday this week (28 February midnight). If we receive more than one suggestion, we have to conduct a majority vote until the beginning of next week on EURALO’s proxy vote. As it is difficult to assume how many of our members will contribute within a few days, let me suggest that a simple majority of those who respond will count.
