Dessi, apologies for not replying sooner.

About the liaison election. There wasn't time to discuss this on the
last ALAC monthly call, Tuesday this week, a special call will be
held sometime next week to agree the schedule, but the proposal is
online (google docs)
<http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0Af3UHLFaPAHHZGYyM2IzZmJfM2diOTJzZ2c0&hl=en_GB>
and comments on the ALAC meeting agenda page
<https://st.icann.org/alac/index.cgi?28_july_2009>

Comments essentially suggest we need more time to complete the
process, but the ALAC has not discussed so these are just
individual's opinions.

Process is particularly important (board liaison is of course anyway
an important position) as the procedure being proposed is intended as
a trial of something that might be used when At Large gets to
select/elect voting board members.

EURALO should begin preparing how it will make selections, and
perhaps begin thinking about names. Who would like to put their name
forward as board liaison, anyone? It's a lot of work!

Other ongoing issues:

Alan Greenberg has drafted a ALAC and ALAC liaison position
description
<https://st.icann.org/alac/index.cgi/index.cgi?draft_alac_pd>.  This
is part of the effort to ensure ALAC members and liaisons do the work
expected of them. The starting point is this job description. You
can add comments direct to the page, or we can discuss on the call.

A public comment period has just ended on new GNSO stakeholder
charters. As Bill Drake's email of a few days ago mentions
<http://atlarge-lists.icann.org/pipermail/euro-discuss_atlarge-lists.icann.org/2009-July/001501.html>
there's been some disagreement over the non-commercial stakeholder
group charter, the stakeholder group most relevant to At Large. The
comment period is now closed, but I think EU-RALO should consider
whether it supports the Structural Improvements Committee (SIC)
proposal
<http://gnso.icann.org/en/improvements/ncsg-proposed-petition-charter-22jun09.pdf>,
what improvements/changes are needed, etc. There will be
opportunities to comment further before or during the Seoul meeting.

I would also like to know if any ALS have been active in IDN issues,
perhaps ISOC Bulgaria or KEPKA, or if other members have an interest
in IDNs. AP-RALO is concerned about ICANN's current proposals,
particularly regarding variants (see
<http://www.circleid.com/posts/20090720_icann_tld_policy_imposes_constraint_internationalized_domains/>
for a paper that explains some of the issues from a
Chinese/Japanese/Korean script perspective) Are there similar
concerns for Greek and Cyrillic?

Thanks,

Adam
