I gather that DNAME interacts poorly with DNSSEC.  That's really a nit, 
it's not a big deal to run a database that puts the same contents into 
umpteen zones and signs them all.

I agree, but we better have a plausible story about why that's not 
hopelessly confusing.  A good start would be to point out that nobody 
seems to have trouble telling .COM from .BIZ.
