As I just said in a different mailing list, ICANN will be a different thing without her.

I remember that we met before ICANN, during the IFWP process, but it was only in the early days of ICANN that we started having our animated discussions, as we were more often than not on the opposite side of an argument. Always with mutual respect - she was the living example that you could have strong dissent but never crossing the fine line that makes things go bitter.

I remember also the first Puerto Rico meeting, when we rented a car and went to see the rain forrest, talking about non-ICANN issues (yes, sometimes it happens!)

Another situation I recollect was during the GNSO Review, that I chaired, when we had long discussions about the new structure I was proposing. She pointed out continuously that the BC+ISP+IP voting weight was going to be reduced, but then accepted the principle of a rebalance of the voting weight between commercial and non-commercial stakeholders putting only one condition - and that was what then happened.

Another time we spent a couple of hours in an airport lounge waiting for our respective flights, and she gave me some good advice about how to involve individual users in At-Large. Those suggestions have been instrumental in building the presence of individual users in EURALO.

All this to say that she was looking at the greater picture of a healthy ICANN ecosystem rather than at the strict interest of the stakeholder community she was representing in the ICANN processes.

Marilyn, you will be sorely missed!
