Although May Day has a completely different story...
For Sala's calendar, Italy's national day is 2nd June, celebrating the birth
of the Republic in 1948.
Austria, where I currently live, has its national day on 26 October.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Day) we seem to
be the only ones that celebrate it on the first Monday in September. Most
other countries later in the year or typically May 1.

In this case, it is not pride in British spellings that caused me to say
that "Labour" is the correct spelling. The concept of celebrating labour
started in Canada and was emulated by the US (although it is unclear which
made it a federal holiday first).
