*Summary of the Pacific Youth IGF 2017*

Here are links to video summaries that we were talking about of the Youth
Track. It was also picked up in the host country's newspaper which is
attached. We designed case studies on Vanuatu in terms of *Accessibility*,
*Availability* and *Affordability*, Freedom of Expression and Local
Content. The session was streamed regionally and globally. We ran the track
differently and in a way where we wanted to embed empowerment, nation
building, infuse a sense of responsibility within the young people and at
the same time debate and brainstorm how things can be developed and
improved.


The youth literally did case studies where they analyzed real time national
scenarios touching into infrastructure, competition, stevedoring, energy

  The different sessions had practicums. During the practicum on the Local
Content Session following  a brief overview of the status of Local Content
in Oceania and in select countries and territories from within Oceania, the
youth were tasked with creating a song and music within an hour. The youth
composed both the lyrics and the music.  *Video of Song Produced by Youth

We are hoping to replicate this in every Pacific country and then do the
same within South East Asia.



*Training Core Leaders and Facilitators (multistakeholder)*

In preparation for the Pacific Youth IGF track we trained 22 local
facilitators. These facilitators came from diverse backgrounds and some
helped to facilitate sessions within the Pacific Youth IGF track. They were
from diverse backgrounds, that is doctors, nurses, lawyers, policy makers


Not all facilitators participated within the Pacific IGF as we only worked
with a handful but the mass training was in preparation for when they move
to the outer islands so there is a lot more human resources available for
when the time arrives. The idea of training the facilitators is to prepare
them for when we roll out more trainings to the outer islands that face far
more challenges.


 Some of the 22 facilitators are also through KBC-Elevate being trained
under the Australian My Connect Program where 10 of them are being trained
in technical training.


Given that Vanuatu has won the bid to host the Asia Pacific Regional
IGF.  *[The
facilitators were from the C-WBN and the KCN in Vanuatu whom we had
collaborated with in 2013 to submit strategies for development of ICT when
the country through the Prime Minister's Office had opened call for input
in the Region. ]*


We have noticed that in 2017 through actual case studies that were analyzed
within the Youth IGF, there is still a need for enhanced coordination
amongst the diverse stakeholders. We have yet to release a paper on the
outcomes as this will be going to the diverse stakeholders in Oceania and
for case studies analyzed, countries concerned.

Over the years, some of the things we have done are as follows:

   mobile app development training in the Pacific [youngest was 10 and oldest
   was 60]
   - Girls and Women in ICT <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWAPf5JBZdA> -
   working with secondary schools in Suva
   - Fishackathons - with the US Embassy [ high school students and
   teachers]
   - Innovation workshops where we have worked with key regional
   organizations to run training and capacity building to solve development
   problems in Health, Commerce, etc; These involved these organizations
   helping us design the problem sets;
   - Trainings for schools and students etc.
   - Launched the Pacific Digital Alliance for Girls and Women in ICT [
   girls and women in ICT]
