Dear APRALO Community,

We have had the practice of organizing RALO monthly meetings as
face-to-face meetings when they happen during an ICANN meeting. This is
because many ALS representatives are usually available during ICANN
meetings, and a face-to-face meeting with whoever is present in person
(with the rest of the ALSes joining in by telephone/Adobe Connect as usual)
is a good opportunity to discuss things in detail.

As per the mail below, ALAC is piloting an initiative that would eliminate
RALO face-to-face monthly meetings during ICANN Meetings (except for the
RALO in whose region that particular ICANN meeting is organized. The pilot
would run for two meetings: ICANN59 and ICANN60 (of course, for us ICANN60
is the General Assembly, so it wouldn't apply to us for ICANN60).

We would like to get the general feeling of the community on this matter.
If any of you feel that this is a problem in any way, kindly let us know.
If we do not hear comments, we will assume that we are ok with going ahead
with the pilot. I am sending this out right away because the deadline for
our response is very short (2 May 2017).

May I also remind you that we have our monthly call tomorrow (Thursday, 27
April 2107) at 06:00 UTC?

During ICANN 58, the ALAC and Regional Leaders discussed the need for more
time to discuss issues together as a team during ICANN Meetings or for
Working Group Meetings.



In order to open up more time on the At-Large schedule, a suggestion was
made to begin a pilot to reduce the number of RALO f2f monthly meetings
held during ICANN Meetings, in particular during the Community Forum (March
Meeting) and the Policy Forum (June Meeting).



The suggestion was that only the RALO in which the ICANN Meeting is taking
place would be encouraged to hold their monthly meeting f2f during the
ICANN Meeting.



RALOs who need to plan events happening either in the months following the
ICANN Meeting or at the next ICANN meeting could hold informal planning
sessions if they wished.



The Monthly Meetings of the RALOs would continue to be held via
teleconference.



The ALAC is requesting that the RALO leadership ask their regions if there
is any strong feeling *not* to move ahead with this pilot and *report back
to the ALAC by Tuesday, 2 May*.
